Mark is a Senior Lecturer in Molecular Genetics at the Hull York Medical School Centre for Biomedicine, based at the University of Hull. Mark was awarded his PhD in 2012 studying molecular genetic alterations in radiation-induced breast cancer with Professor James Allan at Newcastle University. Mark then joined Dr Luke Gaughan’s group at Newcastle as a post-doctoral research associate studying the role of histone demethylase (HDM) enzymes in breast cancer. In particular, the function of the HDMs KDM4B and KDM3A and their role in oestrogen receptor signalling.
Mark established his own group at the University of Hull in 2017 which focuses on the role of epigenetic regulatory proteins in cancer development and progression, particularly in breast cancer and glioblastoma.
