These are awards to help student members attend scientific meetings relevant to cancer research.
The three application deadlines for the 118ͼ¿â bursaries and fellowships each year fall on 31st January, 30th June and 30th September.
Applications are considered together after this deadline, and applicants can expect to hear the outcome of their applications within a month of the deadline. Monies awarded are paid retrospectively, following production of a completed expenditure form with hard copy receipts.
Note: Requests for participation in conferences/workshops (118ͼ¿â student awards and non-student travel awards), the date of the meeting must be one month following the application deadline. We cannot fund retrospective applications, since one of the award criteria is recognition of 118ͼ¿â on the conference presentation/poster. Applicants should therefore plan their applications well in advance, taking careful note of the deadlines.
Applicants for these 118ͼ¿â Awards should send their applications and related documentation by email to the 118ͼ¿â Secretariat: bacr@leeds.ac.uk
Applicants can expect to hear the outcome within a month of the closing date.
Up to a maximum £500 for a National Meeting, £1,000 for a European Meeting and £2,000 outside Europe. Bursaries will cover economy class travel, registration fees and cost of accommodation.
The total sum requested should be stated in the application. However, as it is unlikely that the cost will be met in full, applicants are encouraged to seek additional awards or support from their home institution. Evidence of other funding obtained should also be provided. All receipts must be returned along with a written report that may be published in the Association's newsletter.
Available to students who have been 118ͼ¿â members for one year at the time of application.
Applicants will be expected to submit an abstract and to present their work at the relevant meeting and should submit copies of the abstract with their application. The Association should be appropriately acknowledged on any poster or presentation. Individuals may apply for up to 2 bursaries, at least one of which must be UK-based during the period of student membership.. Since this is likely to fall in two subsequent years, it should be noted that upon election to full membership (if 2 awards have been allocated) then 2 years would have to elapse before applying for a non-student travel award.
